In-House Position
Our Corporate headquarters in Columbia, MD is seeking an experienced attorney to fill a newly created Assistant General Counsel role to assist in the management and resolution of legal matters affecting the company. The ideal candidate must be service-oriented, able to work in a fast-paced environment and provide timely advice, and have the ability to effectively communicate with employees on all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities and Duties include:
  • Proactive and assertive management of outside counsel to ensure the highest quality and most cost-effective representation
  • Advising branch and corporate office personnel with regard to a wide array of substantive issues in order to minimize exposure and expense to the company while meeting business objectives
  • Coordinate internal communications and investigations with field personnel relating to claims management
  • Reporting to, and interaction with, executive leadership regarding case status and critical decisions

Requirements
Requirements include:
  • JD from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials
  • Applicants must be a member in good standing of the Maryland bar or eligible to sit for the exam
  • Three to five years of experience as a litigator, including at least one year with first chair responsibility, with an emphasis on either plaintiff or defense side medical malpractice and negligence issues. Broad experience in drafting and responding to discovery, investigation and development of facts related to claims, drafting and arguing pre-trial motions, and the negotiation and implementation of pre-trial resolutions where appropriate
  • Experience in supervising outside attorneys, editing documents, preparing for and taking/defending depositions and representing companies at mediations
  • Excellent organizational, written and verbal skills required with the ability to quickly analyze issues and craft practical, business-oriented solutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines with consistently high-quality work product in a fun and fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to excellence in service in a high growth, fast paced business environment
  • Prior in-house experience a plus
