Reporting to the Vice President and Chief Intellectual Property Counsel, the individual in this position will be the lead IP attorney for BD's Cell Analysis business headquartered in San Jose, California. The individual in this position will be located at the business headquarters and will work with a team of BD Law Group associates at that location, closely partnering with a Senior Counsel on transactional and other matters and managing a Senior Patent Agent and a paralegal. The position offers a high degree of autonomy and a unique opportunity to partner closely with business associates. We are seeking candidates with the ability to quickly understand the business' technology platforms and portfolio, to offer constructive and proactive input to business leadership to help shape business strategy, and to drive the tactical and transactional objectives required for strategy execution. The position requires experience with traditional patent acquisition and freedom-to-operate skills, and there will also be a significant emphasis on transactional matters, including IP license agreements, product evaluation agreements, R&D and other collaborative agreements and consulting agreements. There also will be extensive partnering with your peer Senior Counsel on more traditionally general transactional matters such as commercial supply and purchase agreements and mergers, acquisitions and divestitures

The individual in this position will have an undergraduate, and preferably a post-graduate, degree in the life sciences, preferably cell biology. Bar admissions must include California and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
